I dread these days…

Once in a while I get a bit… hmm… for lack of a better word “melancholy.” These days are becoming increasingly rare because I am at least engaged in some pretty good work but they do creep up every now and then. On these days I really miss my friends, family and my home and I wonder why I’m here. The day is long… I am disinterested from my work… I usually have a head-ache – just shy of a migraine… and the crappy sand storms make the world outside puke yellow. And despite best efforts from “Pseudo Girl Friend” I still hate sand. All in all I just don’t feel like being here anymore. I look at the countdown calendar and it only depresses me more… even though I am well on my way. Nothing seems to work. All I want is to crawl into bed and sleep for the next 200 days. Do you think maybe hearing the “war is lost” has any thing to do with this?

Keep your eye on the goal, buddy. You're not the only one who's feeling melancholy every now and then :)

Dude, hang in there. The marathon is long and painful at times. I would say you might need to adjust the pace a little, but that just won't happen there. Steal sleep when and where you can. I will do the happy dance for you here. Just play the video you have, it is about the same. And remember, it is a long, crooked path to the top of the volcano.

Hang in there, Hollywood! I know how you feel... been there so many days over my last few months... and those countdown calendars aren't much good when you know what they're going to say (and it's not encouraging). Put them away until the halfway mark!!!

You really should find a new pot to stir, you catalyst, you! Or upset an 800-lb. gorilla, since that usually amuses you.

As slow as it seems like it's going right now, you're going to look back and it will have flown by. Trust me. And hold on. I'm glad that your new job keeps you so busy, though!

Okay, so other than the blowing sand part (and IEDs, snipers, incoming, etc.) it sounds just like any other day at W**L before you left. ;) Since we're not there to assist, go do what you'd normally do back home to cheer yourself up: go throw a couple proverbial hand grenades (gotta remember you have the real ones over there, too), sit back and enjoy the show. :)

hey there...one day at a time...
like mr. bua said, it's a marathon, and nobody knows marathons like you do!

We'll have many things to celebrate when you return--YOU, being the first thing. And for another, the boss made Captain, so drinks are on her! :)

Hey, what a nice redesign... :)

Hopefully this blog allows you to let your Virtual You frolic in the fun little world of gifs and jpgs... despite the less pleasant surroundings your 'real self' is in now... (doh... starting to sound like the Matrix)

We have some folks which i'll call "Bug Repellers" in this office that are 'borrowing' some of the extra desks here... Well I noticed one of these Bug Repellers have also borrowed your Wiley Coyote Doll and placed it in their borrowed cubicle. I thought i'd get your permission first before i yank the doll from their spot and put it back at your desk. :)

Miss Ya!

On an unrelated note, i read somewhere that Matthew McConaughey is also a Texas Longhorn. What's up with "Matts" and "Longhorns"? :)

You are in the "valley". Hold close to the One who is leading.

Only in looking back will you gain perspective of this time. Others have said it and it is true that these times require taking it one moment at a time.

Just the other day in the very liberal land of Marin...we had opening day for Little league.

A young Army officer, one I swore in several years ago :), threw out the opening ball.

When she was introduced and came on the field...the crowd went wild.
The cheering went on for a very long time and I believe could be heard for miles.

Remember this...what ever the politicians will do...they will do.

The country has clearly separated the war from the warrior. You are loved, respected and have the hearts of the American people.

hold on to that. you are a hero. And that will stay with you the rest of your life.

We want you home safe, keep your head down.
